According to Tech Columnist AARON BROWN,  INSTAGRAM is testing another drastic change to its core functionality. But the Facebook-owned social network might have misjudged this latest tweak.

Facebook has introduced a number of features into Instagram, making it more like Facebook every day

Instagram is testing a new feature with users across the globe.

The photo-sharing social network is pushing out the new functionality to its Android beta release, blog Droid Life has claimed.

The new feature allows users to share multi-photograph albums for the first time.

This is something that Instagram had previously reserved for the carrousel posts shared by advertisers on the social network.

But now it seems all users will be able to upload multiple photographs into an album.

These will presumably be shared as a single post, although, those with access to the new beta build are not currently able to share albums on their Timelines – since the feature is only being trialled.

Uploading photos into an albums is a feature more reminiscent of Instagram’s parent company – Facebook – than the mobile app’s own DNA.

INSTAGRAM ACHIEVED ITS DOMINANT POSITION AS THE GO TO PHOTO SHARING SOCIAL NETWORKS

Born in late 2010, Instagram achieved its dominant position as the go-to photo sharing social network thanks to its simplicity and easy-to-use filters.

Facebook paid $1billion for the service back in 2012, with the simple photo sharing social network going on to achieve even greater success – topping 500 million users last year.

Back in May 2016, Instagram completely overhauled its logo – replacing the retro camera icon with a purple, pink and orange-hued cartoon.

Thousands of users tweeted about the change, labelling the new logo “ugly” and “cheap”.

This was followed by the addition of Instagram Stories later in the year, which brought SnapChat-esque ephemeral photos to the app.

And now it has brought albums to the social network, which completely upsets the innate curation that Instagram users enjoyed.

Facebook was a place where social network users could dump dozens of images, whereas Instagram forced its users to curate one, single photograph.

“Also instagram wants to be Facebook now, they wanna introduce photo albums,” one user tweeted as the beta rolled-out.

It remains to be seen whether Instagram will decides to keep the feature after its beta tests.
