Snap Inc. is taking some of the mystery out of its Snapchat messaging app by enabling its users to search for friends and content from publishers.
THE UPDATE WILL BRING A NEW INTERFACE WITH A SPECIAL EMPHASIS
Along with new features, the update will bring a new interface with a special emphasis on improved searching and navigation within the app. Currently available for beta users right now, Snapchat is expected to roll out the update for iOS users followed by Android users. Let’s take a look at the big changes that Snapchat is going to roll out.
One of the biggest changes is the improved search functionality in the app. With the redesigned app, users will have a universal search bar placed on top of all three sections, chat, camera and Stories. As reported by Mashable, the universal search bar is followed by a “Quick Chat” tab wherein you can directly select a friend you want to chat with. Below that is also a section of the Groups you are a member of on the app. Up until now, one would have to go the chat section, or tap on the chat option while viewing Stories, to chat with their friends. There’s a new shortcut located at the bottom contains a list of new friends added recently, and you can swipe right as well to go the “Quick Add” section where in the suggested users will show up.
Coming back to the universal search bar, it will also allow one to go their own profile by tapping on their Bitmoji on the left. Currently, one needs to tap on the Snap icon or swipe down, which was located on the camera section, to go to their profile or access the “Quick Add” menu, add friends and see contacts. It doesn’t end here.
THE SEARCH BAR HAS FURTHER BEEN INTEGRATED TO MAKE IT EASIER FOR PUBLISHERS
The search bar has further been integrated to make it easier for publishers from the Discover section and live stories as well. Now, when you search for a certain publisher, say NBA for example, as seen in the picture below, it will allow you to directly subscribe to the publisher. It also adds a small description in a small box, which was not available before. In addition to this, live stories will also show up in the search results.
Another major update that Snapchat is bringing to the app is the introduction of a new global live story, called “Our Story.” This will be located just below the “My Story” option in the app. Snapchat will allow users to upload their stories to “Our Story” at any given time. TechCrunch reports that Snapchat will give users the option to allow the app to use their posts however they want. It’s not known yet how Snapchat will use the universal live stories. Snapchat’s live stories were initially restricted to locations and global events only.
THIS NEW UPDATE FOR SNAPCHAT WILL SURELY PROVE VERY USEFUL AS NAVIGATING ON THE APP
This new update for Snapchat will surely prove very useful as navigating on the app has always been confusing and tough, especially for newbies. The latest update will come amid Facebook’s efforts to compete with Snapchat with several new features inspired from the latter. Facebook-owned Instagram already has a Snapchat-like Stories feature. According to Instagram, 100 million active users were using the new feature within two months of its launch.
