Walkman NW-A35

Possibly the most surprising announcement of Sony’s CES 2017 press conference was the unveiling of a new Walkman with “a focus on fashion and individuality” – although we’re not quite sure what the company means. What we do know is that it comes in a range of vibrant colours including Viridian (blue), Cinnabar (red), Charcoal (black), Lime Yellow (yellow) and Bordeuax Pink (pink).

In terms of specs, the NW-A5 weighs only 98g, features Bluetooth and NFC and a 3.1in touchscreen. Sony claims the new Walkman can last around 45 hours playing Mp3s, or 30 hours when playing high-res audio. In terms of storage, consumers have a single choice – 16GB – although this can be expanded via a MicroSD card. Price wise, it’ll cost £180 when it hits UK shores in February 2017.

 Sony Bravia OLED TVs

What wasn’t so surprising was the introduction of a new fleet of Bravia A1 OLED 4K HDR-enabled TVs featuring the same X1 Extreme processor seen in Sony’s ZD9 series. The A1 series also features Sony’s Acoustic Surface technology that makes the TV display vibrate to play sound directly from the screen, negating the need for physical speakers.

Sony HT-ST5000 soundbar

Along with the A1 series TVs, Sony announced a brand new soundbar. As well as supporting high-res audio and Dolby Atmos 3D surround sound, it comes with Sony’s S-Force PRO Front Surround which Sony claims beams sound waves in specific directions to provide room-filling sound without a myriad of speakers.
